When you pick it up you notice that it is heavier than other cheaper steamers of a similar design, they've used a heavier gauge of steel in this, so it seems much sturdier. I also like the nice design touches, such as the fold up feet with the silicon on the bottom. The feet are high enough to put enough water when steaming that it doesn't dry out by the time the steaming is done. That was a pet peeve of mine on some of the cheaper models I've owned over the years. The retractable handle in the center is also a good idea. It retracts to allow the steamer to sit inside a pot easily, but extends when lifting the steamer out. Perhaps this steamer cost me a little bit more, but definitely worth it in my opinion. I can't comment on it's long term use, as I've only owned it a short time, but on first impressions, it's a quality product and one I would definitely recommend to others
